2019 has seen some great games released already, but it seems that the best is yet to come. Some big titles are coming to the Switch, including a couple of popular re-releases in the final quarter of 2019. Here is a look at the 10 best Nintendo Switch games coming to the system in 2019.
10 FINAL FANTASY VIII REMASTERED
Final Fantasy VIII is a controversial entry in one of the most beloved RPG franchises ever. Its fans adore it, though, and 2019 sees the Nintendo Switch getting a re-release in this remastered version. For those who never played it, this is a standalone game in the Final Fantasy series and initially released on the original PlayStation in 1999.
This remastered version features new graphical enhancements as well as a ton of new options to customize the gameplay. This game is not a remake, but there is a remake of Final Fantasy VII coming early next year. This version is a remaster; probably the best the game has ever looked without changing gameplay at all.
9 NBA 2K20
There is a hugely popular basketball game coming to the Nintendo Switch this year, in NBA 2K20. The latest basketball game has several significant changes after a hectic offseason. Kevin Durant joined the Brooklyn Nets, and Anthony Davis headed to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Davis is the cover star on the basic edition of this year’s game while there is also a Legends Edition with Dwyane Wade as the cover star. This game returns to the MyCAREER and MyTEAM modes. NBA 2K20 will hit all three major consoles in the latter portion of 2019.
8 SPYRO REIGNITED TRILOGY
In the latter part of 2019, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is being ported over to the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made earlier this year at Nintendo’s E3 presentation. The game already released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so this release finally gives Nintendo gamers a chance to get their hands on it.
This game combines the first three Spyro games from 1998, 1999 and 2000. Spyro now follows Crash Bandicoot, whose own remastered trilogy has also been ported to the Nintendo Switch.
7 THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK’S AWAKENING
The Nintendo built its legacy on two characters. Mario and Link helped create an entire generation of fans with a tried and pure devotion to Nintendo, over the juggernauts of the future in Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox. In the last few months of 2019, Nintendo has a gift for long-time fans of Link.

The Legend of Zelda: King’s Awakening is getting re-released for the Nintendo Switch. The original game was a Game Boy release in 1993 and Nintendo has lovingly re-crafted the game into full 3D with an irresistibly cute chibi art style. There is also a re-recorded soundtrack, but the gameplay is still pure Zelda.
6 FIFA 20
FIFA 20 is coming to the Nintendo Switch this year, bringing the popular soccer game back to fans with a brand-new mode to play outside of the basic seasonal gameplay. This new mode is the Volta mode, which boasts the basic professional soccer-style merged into a street soccer format for lots of off-the-wall action.
The basic format remains intact as well, with the gameplay engine remaining mostly unchanged outside of some improvements in pacing and speed of play. The most complete and satisfying FIFA experience yet? We’ll find out when it lands on September 27.
5 THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT - COMPLETE EDITION
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has won a ton of awards, an open-world adventure with a great storyline at its core. Now that The Witcher is coming to Netflix as an original series, owners of the Nintendo Switch will get the game in a Complete Edition in the last quarter of 2019.

Geralt is a Witcher, a mercenary of sorts who hunts down monsters using some great tools and weapons. You can explore every end of the monster-infested world, and while there is a mission to track down the Child of Prophecy, killing monsters on the side is still great fun. This edition includes every piece of downloadable content and the two massive story expansions.
4 LUIGI’S MANSION 3
Mario and Luigi are the brothers who made Nintendo an empire. While Mario got his start as the plucky hero in Donkey Kong, the brothers went on to the hugely successful Mario Bros. franchise, the most recognizable in Nintendo history.
This year, just in time for Halloween, Luigi’s Mansion 3 hits the Nintendo Switch. In the game, Luigi heads on vacation to a hotel, but then learns it was a trap and everyone ends up captured. Luigi, the cowardly brother, then has to make it through the hotel to save his friends.
3 JUST DANCE 2020
It has been 10 years since the first Just Dance game came out, featuring songs by MC Hammer, Elvis Presley, Spice Girls, and The Beach Boys. Through the years, the bands and artists have been modernized drastically, with names like Ke$ha, Rihanna, Pink, The Weeknd, Major Lazer, and more.
This year, Just Dance 2020 hits the Nintendo Switch, and gamers can dance to bands and acts like Billie Eilish, The Black Eyed Peas, Ariana Grande, Skrillex, and Pitbull. Sadly, there is also “Baby Shark,” so keep this away from your kids.
2 POKÉMON SWORD AND SHIELD
A new Pokémon game is coming to the Nintendo Switch just in time for the holidays this year. The game is titled Pokémon Sword and Shield. This game is the first new one in the eighth generation of Pokémon games.
There is very little news about the games, but the expectations are that the gameplay will remain similar to past games, adding in mechanics like raid encounters and open-world exploration. The story is the same as usual, with the player trying to become the strongest trainer in the region through battles. It’s shaping up to be the biggest Pokémon experience yet, although it has faced some backlash since the announcement that the National Dex has had to be removed.
1 DOOM ETERNAL
Doom is one of the OGs of the first-person shooter world. The original game was released in 1993 for the PC and is considered one of the best first-person shooters of all-time. In 2016, Bethesda Softworks rebooted Doom, offering the sort of visceral and high-octane shooter experience many players had never seen before. It received critical praise and sold over 500,000 units.
Doom Eternal hits at the end of 2019 as the follow-up to that rebooted game. Once again, Nintendo Switch players will get a chance to play the game, again battling demonic forces rising from Hell. There is also an asymmetric multiplayer mode called Invasion, adding an interesting wrinkle and more online fun for gamers.
