The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said its violent crime investigation team responded to a shooting at 16600 block of Mystic Timber, Cypress, on Tuesday.

The man was shot two times by an unknown assailant from his own backyard, hitting him in the chest.

The victim’s wife then drove him to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to KHOU.

Police said the victim is in stable condition with non-life-threatening wounds.

The voice-controlled device is said to have failed to call 911 and instead replied: “You must try another device.”

Police have not released any details about the suspect and have so far failed to find a possible motive.

The shooting occurred the night after a husband was killed while his wife was being robbed by three masked men at their games room in east Harris County.

Police said they responded to a shooting at 719 Barbara Mae on Monday, November 11. Deputies said when the wife exited the room, she was approached by three unknown suspects who demanded money.

When the husband also went outside, he was shot by one of the men. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The suspects fled the scene on foot, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

Anyone with information on either shooting is urged to call the sheriff’s office on 713-221-6000 or the Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

Elsewhere, a 3-year-old boy died on November 1 after he shot himself with a gun he found at a northwest Harris County home.

Gonzalez told a press conference that the child’s parents were in the home at the time, along with several other children.

“At this point in the investigation, it appears that the child gained access to a pistol that was left loaded inside the home,” Gonzalez later tweeted. “An autopsy remains pending, but it appears the child shot himself.”

An investigation has been launched into how the child was able to get a hold of the gun.

“There’s no excuse for a child to gain access to a weapon,” Gonzalez told reporters. “And so if that’s the case, then that should have happened. That’s against the law, you can be prosecuted for that.”
