Lizbeth Flores’ body was found in the city of Matamoros, directly across the U.S.-Mexico border from Brownsville, Texas, on August 11, a day after she was reported missing by her family, ABC affiliate KRGV-TV reported. According to the station, Mexican authorities said Flores’ cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. They believe that the mother-of-two, from Brownsville, had been hit on the head by a large rock that was found at the scene and is consistent with the injury she sustained....

The Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners unanimously voted to eliminate protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or disability on Monday, according to The Texas Tribune. The change was reportedly recommended by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The governor claimed that the previous rules, which did prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ and disabled people, needed to be changed because they went beyond the scope of what was strictly prohibited by the Texas law....

Army Sgt. Daniel Perry was booked and released on a $300,000 bond after turning himself in, according to Kristen Dark, a spokeswoman for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. A Travis County grand jury indicted Perry on charges of murder, aggravated assault and deadly conduct after he shot and killed Garrett Foster, 28 on July 25, 2020. Perry had stopped his car and was honking at a crowd of demonstrators protesting police brutality in downtown Austin....

In April, Jeanette Peterson, a teacher at Berry Miller Junior High in Pearland, Texas, reportedly told seventh-grader Juelz Trice that his haircut violated the school’s dress code. Peterson said he could either let administrators change the shape of his fade with a Sharpie or face suspension. Trice’s family has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit, naming Peterson, principal Tony Barcelona, discipline clerk Helen Day and Pearland Independent School District for what they call a humiliating and racist attack....

In November, Thailand previously allowed for fully vaccinated travelers to enter the country without quarantine. However, the government reinstated quarantine restrictions after a local transmission with the Omicron variant was reported last week. Thailand’s “test-and-go” option, also known as the Thailand Pass, for travelers who are fully vaccinated, will still be allowed to enter the country without restrictions, according to government officials. There are currently about 200,000 people registered for the program but haven’t traveled to the country yet....

On Wednesday, Thailand recorded 2,112 new cases and 15 deaths. The country has recently been reporting about 2,000 cases a day, often with double-digit deaths, in the third mass outbreak since the pandemic started. More than half of the 74,900 cases reported by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) have been confirmed since April 1. Vernon Tigers center fielder Walter Carlisle flipped forward when snagging a fly ball in the bottom of the sixth inning with Los Angeles Angels runners on at first and second. “Carlisle regained his feet and ran to second base, retiring the runner Moore, who had rounded third and was most of the way toward home plate. After doubling off Moore, Carlisle switched direction slightly and ran toward first base, where he tripled off that runner, Metzer, who was still between second and third — completing an unusual unassisted triple play,” Carlisle’s SABR bio described....
